There was already a Cathedral in Lincoln in 1066, but the Norman Bishop of Lincoln ordered a new church to be built, which was completed in 1092. After an earthquake rebuilding work commenced in 1185. The central tower was added 1311 and it houses 'Great Tom', one of the largest bells in England. It's a spectacular building found at the top of 'Steep Hill' which itself contains an assortment of rare buildings. One of which is Jew's House. Dating from around 1170, it was the 13th centuary home of Jewess Belassant de Wallingford. |
